Finnish food delivery service Wolt has announced an additional €110 million funding from investors to drive its international growth.
The company started in 2014 by Miki Kuusi, who was previously the CEO of Slush. Wolt now delivers restaurant food by courier to hungry customers in 15 countries and 50 cities in north, east, central and southern Europe, as well as Israel.
This latest round of funding comes from an investment company called Iconiq Capital which manages money for Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Other investors come from Finland, England and Sweden.
Wolt says it will hire 1000 extra staff by the end of 2020, including in product and technology development, country teams, brand, analytics, finance, legal and HR.
“Hiring for us isn’t about adding headcount. It’s about adding talent and bringing in passionate people who want to grow Wolt with us” the company says in a statement.
